  • Record/Vinyl + Digital Album

Fantastic sounding analogue version of Earthrise with custom edits unique to this format.
A batch of LPs have reversed labels due to an error in the manufacturing process. I'll check before dispatch and let you know if you have one of these rarities. The album would then be played the side labled "Part two" 1st to get the correct sequence, launching first and returning last! :-)

about

The final track on the album starts with more mysterious, ethereal Moon piano. As the astronauts sit inside the ship ready to blast off and dock with the command module orbiting above you hear their heartbeats. They wait in anticipation of a successful launch but if it fails they're stranded on the Moon and certain death. The piano chords echo the launch but now in a different more plaintive, less triumphant key. The ship takes off and begins the journey home, after docking it cruises through space at high velocity. The Trans-Earth Injection (TEI) maneuver rapidly draws the craft towards the Earth bolstered by command service module (CSM) Columbia's engines.
The melodies again are Zappa'esque with a slow funky groove reminiscent of Stevie Wonder or Jamiroquai . The re-entry passage moves into a jazzy 6/8 groove which references "Milestones" by Miles Davis from the 1950s. The funky bass line uses octaver and envelope filter effects reminiscent of Stanley Clarke with Chick Corea's Return to Forever. The intensity and danger of the re-entry is etched into the listener's imagination by the incredible soprano saxophone solo by the amazing Tim Garland (another Chuck Corea alumni). Columbia makes it through the atmosphere intact and the crew, Armstrong, Aldrin and command module pilot Michael Collins "float" suspended by parachutes touching down in the Pacific Ocean to be retrieved by the US navy. The heroes return from the most historic, dangerous and momentous mission in the history of mankind. the music concludes with some plain, simple major chords. Back to life, back to reality!
